<enactingFormula style="-uslm-lc:I650120">Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa­tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,</enactingFormula>
<section style="-uslm-lc:I650146"><num value="1">SECTION 1. </num><heading>SHORT TITLE.</heading><content style="-uslm-lc:I650120">This Act may be cited as the <shortTitle role="act">“Promoting Women in Entrepreneurship Act”</shortTitle>.</content>
</section>
<section style="-uslm-lc:I650141"><num value="2">SEC. 2. </num><heading>FINDINGS.</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I650120" class="indent0 fontsize10">The Congress finds that—</chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> women make up almost 50 percent of the workforce, but less than 25 percent of the workforce in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> women are less likely to focus on the STEM disciplines in undergraduate and graduate study;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> only 26 percent of women who do attain degrees in STEM fields work in STEM jobs;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="4">(4)</num><content> there is an increasing demand for individuals with STEM degrees to extend their focus beyond the laboratory so they can be leaders in discovery commercialization;</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="5">(5)</num><content> studies have shown that technology and commercialization ventures are successful when women are in top management positions; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="6">(6)</num><content> the National Science Foundations mission includes supporting women in STEM disciplines.</content>
</paragraph>

<section role="instruction" style="-uslm-lc:I650141"><num value="3">SEC. 3. </num><heading>SUPPORTING WOMENS ENTREPRENEURIAL PROGRAMS.</heading>
<chapeau style="-uslm-lc:I650120" class="indent0 fontsize10">Section 33 of the Science and Engineering Equal Opportunities Act (<ref href="/us/usc/t42/s1885a">42 U.S.C. 1885a</ref>) <amendingAction type="amend">is amended</amendingAction></chapeau><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="1">(1)</num><content> by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> <quotedText>“and”</quotedText> at the end of paragraph (10);</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="2">(2)</num><content> by <amendingAction type="delete">striking</amendingAction> the period at the end of paragraph (11) and <amendingAction type="insert">inserting</amendingAction> <quotedText>“; and”</quotedText>; and</content>
</paragraph>
<paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="3">(3)</num><content> by <amendingAction type="add">adding</amendingAction> at the end the following new paragraph:<quotedContent><paragraph style="-uslm-lc:I650122" class="indent1 fontsize10"><num value="12">  “(12)</num><content> encourage its entrepreneurial programs to recruit and support women to extend their focus beyond the laboratory and into the commercial world.”</content>
